Heretics

Being raised Lutheran, we learned how Martin Luther became enraged at the selling of Indulgences as a way to raise money for the Catholic Church. Eventually, it led to his posting of the 95 thesis that was to mark the beginning of Christian Protestantism. Even though Luther believed in his God and his Church, he detested that which he believed was wrong. As punishment, his church excommunicated him and branded him a heretic.

Get ready for a new bunch of heretics. Over 31,000 science degree holders, including more than 9,000 with Ph.Ds, have signed a petition saying that there is no science to back anthroprogenic Global Warming.

Just like before, they are objecting to the selling of indulgences (carbon credits) to finance some unholy activity. I am sure that there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth, but I predict it won't result in another 30 Years War.

We don't have the patience for that anymore.

I'm still sticking with the leading climatologists in the world. Claiming there is no science to back anthroprogenic global warming is ludicrous, no matter who says it. It's dark ages kind of stuff. I'd be interested in a poll of these same people on evolution.

Anyway, from what I can see, denial is pretty well uniform across the right wing now, part of getting your ticket punched on entry to the circus. ExxonMobil planted a mustard seed and it has grown now into a large tree.

But it was easy, thinking about it - Exxon merely told you what you wanted to hear. You were willing to listen because you didn't want to confront an unpleasant and inconvenient truth. I wonder if any of the 31,000 are psychologists. They might explain this better than me.

Mark Trotsky: I think if you owned a few hundred shares of XOM and stopped going to the movies, you would see things more clearly.

Yes, we climate deniers are all helpless pawns of the oil industry. Thanks Ralph..

Ouch. Do you think Al Gore will have to give back the $30 million he made off this hoax?

No viceroy - you're not helpless. you're willing dupes. You're being told what you want to hear.

And you're not?

There ain't a day that goes by that I don't wish it was all nonsense. I'm being told exactly what I don't want to hear. It's a little tougher to face unpleasant things than to be reassured that everything is cool, so to speak.

Hence the name: An Inconvenient Truth

I like Joe Balyeat's take. What matters is that we concentrate on renewable and home grown energy sources to eliminate our dependence on any foreign sources of energy.

And we reject Trotsky's take, that we should reduce our energy consumption to that of a fourth world country so we don't have a standard of living any better than anyone else in the world.
